Morning work

As my phone approaches 16% battery, I decide to create this post. LOL

This morning I was working on two things already just in the past hour. First I collaged onto this leaf making it look better than when it was just painted. This is just a portion of a collage painting I’m creating but I thought I would share it with you. If you want to see more of it there is a video on my Facebook page, Ruth Inman art, and I discuss the second item in more detail and that is reusing acrylic paint.

I think I will leave it there, and if you’re interested, you can go find this morning’s video on that Facebook page. Thanks for tuning in.

Art on the Run

I went to visit my mom for her 94th birthday and while I was there, I had a few opportunities to create a little. One thing I made was a ‘sign’ on loose canvas for her to hang on her door for “the big day”… and she loved it. The 2nd one was to take its place after “the day” as she loves my Birds. (I’m glad) But I also made some ‘papers’ to use in collages and found a good use for one while I was still there. I had brought a book of mine; I made it a few months ago, and it needed some embellishing. Here are some pictures of all that.

Under the sea

I have a Facebook group called worldwide postcard swap and each month we sign up if we want to participate and all the names go in a hat more or less and partners are chosen and then we send postcards to our partner. We put them in envelopes to keep them protected. I received too many that were ripped torn or wet. Sometimes, there’s a theme, and sometimes there’s not, and even if there is a theme, if you don’t feel like doing that theme, you just do your own thing. This month, the theme was underwater. I particularly enjoyed creating this postcard. I did not have my markers with me, so I first did it with a pencil, then went over it with a permanent marker and then painted with acrylic paints. It was fun even though I don’t think I draw a very good octopus. They aren’t horrible. I just know I have seen a lot better. But hey, these are mine, and I’ll own that.

Ursula the upright

Ursula the upright

I had a surprise delivery today, someone I haven’t seen in a very long time. It was Ursula! Grab your coffee and I’ll tell you about it.

“Ursula the Upright” began her life in 2017, born to participate in an exhibit called “Sit up Straight” at Exhibit A Gallery in Peoria Heights, IL. I first made the chair, thinking that would be something that would make someone sit up straight. But once it was finished, it looked empty, lonely even. So, I decided to create a creature to sit on it. Ursula was born. I named her Ursula because she needed to sit up straight, and I couldn’t very well call her Susie sit up straight, so I wanted it to be somebody sitting upright. Alliteration was my answer and the first name that popped into my head, starting with the letter u, was Ursula.

Now, when Ursula was finished, a friend of mine saw her and wanted badly to buy her. I explained that she was promised to an exhibit and had to stay there for a month, but she was welcome to her after that. And that is what we did. Sometime after that, my friend moved out of state to be nearer her son and granddaughter. She had put Ursula in the guest room where her granddaughter would be spending some time and she thought Ursula would be appreciated.

So she has spent a few years living in a Sunshine State while I shivered here in the cold, but knowing that she was in good hands and well appreciated helped. From time to time, I needed a picture of Ursula, and in my unorganized photos, I could not seem to find one. Whenever I messaged my friend, she would oblige me by sending a picture, bless her heart. Until today.

A delivery man left a box on my front step; my friend had told me she was sending me something so I knew it was from her, but I had no idea upon opening it that inside I would find Ursula! She included a hand written note saying that she liked Ursula but recognized that I love Ursula and she wanted me to have her.

Knowing my friend, she was not about to let me return it or even buy it back from her, so I told her that I would be making another one for her and send it to her. She insisted I could just send her more note cards. She is a note card fanatic who sends them out like crazy bless her heart, and she does like my crazy Birds on the note cards and has bought dozens of them from me over the years. If you haven’t seen them, you can take a peek at: ruthinmanart.com/art-store/note-cards

I will be sending her note cards for Life! and a new ‘creature’ as soon as I get it finished. I’ll be starting it today so you may see some updates… soon.

Ciao!
